Can Manchester City equal this 32 year Reading FC record?

If Manchester City get a win on Wednesday night against Southampton in the Premier League (ko 8pm) they will equal Reading’s English record for the most points after 14 games.
Victory against the Saints will leave City on 40 points, with 13 wins and one draw from their opening 14 matches.
Only two other teams in the history of the top four divisions of English football have ever managed that before.
Reading were the last team to do it when they were in the old Division Three back in 1985/86.
Tottenham were the first to do it in 1960/61.
Back then though you only picked up two points for a win so Spurs actually only had 27 points as opposed to 40.

Pep Guardiola’s City could set a new record for 15 games though.
No team has ever had the equivalent of more than 40 points after 15 matches.
Victory over Southampton and then again over West Ham on Sunday will well and truly put them in the history books.
