Prince Harry And Meghan Markle To Marry On Saturday 19 May 2018

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be getting married on 19 May next year.

As the wedding is on a Saturday there will be no bank holiday for the public.

The wedding will clash with the 2018 FA Cup Final, meaning Prince William is unlikely to be able attend the match and present the trophy, as he usually does, on this occasion.

“Saturday 19 May promises to be a wonderful day with such a special royal occasion being followed by English football’s showpiece event, the Emirates FA Cup Final,” said an FA spokesman.

“With millions coming together to watch both events at home and around the world, it will be a day to celebrate.”

Christmas with the Queen

Since the wedding was announced in November, Ms Markle, an American actress, has been getting acquainted with royal life.

She carried out her first joint royal engagement with Prince Harry in Nottingham and she will be spending Christmas Day at Sandringham with the Queen.

Ms Markle is expected to join the Royal family at the traditional Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church on the Queen’s private estate in Norfolk.

Wedding in Windsor

Earlier Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their wedding would take place at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Windsor is believed to be a special place for the couple, who have spent time there, and the chapel is where the prince was christened.

Little has been given away about plans for the big day but Prince Harry and Ms Markle want their wedding to reflect “who they are as a couple”.

Kensington Palace announced the wedding, including the service in the chapel, flowers and reception, will be paid for by the Royal family.

Ms Markle, who is a protestant, will have to be baptised and confirmed to take part in the Church of England ceremony. She is also due to become a British citizen.
