Manchester United set to confirm Alexis Sanchez swap

The January transfer window is well and truly underway with Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal right in the thick of the action.

Manchester United’s breathtaking deal to sign Alexis Sanchez is worth around £180 million after the forward agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Sanchez is now just waiting to find out if Henrikh Mkhitarayn will give the green light on a switch in the other direction to Arsenal, which would trigger his move to Old Trafford.

However, with the Armenian still unsure about a move in the opposite direction to Arsenal. A move to former club Borussia Dortmund is his favoured choice.

Sanchez will be paid £14m a year after tax – just under £27m a year before tax – to join United, on top of his £30m valuation, £20m signing-on fee, and an agents’ fee worth more than £10m.

That all adds up to around £180m for a player who had entered the final six months of his Arsenal contract and goes some way to explaining why Manchester City walked away from negotiations.

Speaking of Dortmund and it is there where the Gunners may find their replacement for Sanchez with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joining Bordeaux’s Malcom at the top of Arsene Wenger’s wishlist. Manchester City, who have now given up on Sanchez, are still set to players this month with a new centre back the priority for Pep Guardiola to bolster his league leaders while Antonio Conte is desperate for a striker with Andy Carroll emerging as a surprise target.
