For Mrs Fausat Adeniran, last Sunday would forever remain a day of tragedy that can never be forgotten in her history. In what seems like a movie scene, she lost her precious daughter, Barakat in a fatal accident which also claimed other lives.

The incident which went viral on social media and was widely reported on several credible media outfits was said to have happened at Bode Market in Molete area of Ibadan on Sunday July 4th.

According to the report, the ill-fated tanker suffered a brake failure and overran many traders in the market. Not less than 15 people lost their lives in the accident while many others sustained various degree of injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Two days after the unfortunate incident, Mrs Adeniran, fondly known as “Iya Ijesha” broke silence in a pathetic tone.

Scene of the ill fated accident

According to her, the 24-year old lady had told a young girl that usually come to visit her that she was traveling and might not come back. However, the mother revealed that she actually had no plan to travel to anywhere aside the journey of no return she embarked on that fateful Sunday.

The woman confirmed that traditionalists in the market had told traders to stay away from the market for seven days due to an impending disaster they foresaw. However, her daughter promised her she would help her open her shop so she could sell a few things.

That decision marked the beginning of her journey to an unknown destination. She claimed that her daughter got down from a bike and while trying to pay the rider, she and the rider were caught up with the ill-fated tanker which had already been out of control of its driver. They died on the spot.

Barakat was said to have completed her ND in Mass Communication from the Polytechnic, Ibadan. She had also learnt a fashion designer and graduated from the institute. The mother confirmed that she had obtained her HND form to further her education before she met her untimely death.

According to her brother, Adegoke, Barakat tried to escape the accident but she was electrocuted while running away from the scene. The truck was said to have initially hit an electric pole which fell to the ground. It was the live wire on the pole that electrocuted her and also made the truck knock her down alongside other victims.

The young lady had reportedly been buried according to the Islamic rite.

May her soul rest in peace.
