18yr Old Wife, Chisom Hospitalized After Abuse, Begs Police Not To Arrest Husband (video)
18-year-old Chisom from Ebonyi State, visibly injured in hospital, pleads against the arrest of her alleged abuser husband as she fears his mother will blame her and it will appear she caused the conflict.
Chisom entered the relationship at age 15, dropped out of school, and was reportedly married without her father’s consent after her mother’s death; the man is from Anambra State and no legal marriage is recognised.
Activist Harrison Gwamnishu intervened at the Isolo hospital scene, leading to the husband’s arrest by police and Chisom’s placement in a Lagos State shelter under the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency for safety and support.
“Please do not arrest him, his mother doesn’t like me, it’ll seem as if I’m the problem,” says the 18-year-old Ebonyi girl, a victim of alleged domestic violence, after activist Gwamnishui told her he would call the police to arrest her Anambra-born husband for physically abusing her.
